Nah whos stupid idea was it to use an engine from a smashed Escort... :D

(For anyone wondering what the hell we are chatting about, lets just say the Escort wasnt willing to give up its internals. Not even when we tried ripping the engine out using a tow rope and a 1.0 Polo!)

Certainly was, must have been caused in the accident.

So anyway, anyone got a metro turbo engine kicking around?

i guess we are back to square one.

we either try metro turbo, which will at least bolt to the allegro box, but this seems a little easy, and the turbo a series is an archaic engine, and a little temprimental for what it is, no offence. this car is meant to be fun, but also extreme and attention grabbing, so why not go for a more far out idea?

i know "our" bent escort wouldnt relinquish its zetec but could we source another from somewhere else, and still go the rwd type 9 route?

anyway what was wrong with taking a grinder to the inner wings and cutting the engine etc free that way? the car would then finish at the bulkhead and you have the remains removed by the scrap man. have you two really bust the engine, as in split or bent something or will it just not come free?

i recon it might come out by removing the gearbox and some cutting of the wings and subframe. Main problem is the bloody aircon it runs everywhere and its nasty stuff in a pressurized system as we found out and ford seem to think that the engine needs a million bolts to hold it two the chassis. so f**king complicated.

Maybe if we had a bloody big angle grinder we could cut the whole front end to pieces around the engine. Recon we only damaged the pulleys and PS pump and aircon pump.

It might be alright, the wireloom is shagged i got a little cutter happy :D

Well we dont really need the wiring loom.

I wondered whether a metro turbo engine with adjustable boost might be better, certainly easier? Could jack it right up for drag strip use and see what we do?

Nutters, all of you! What's the maximum you can get out of an 'A' turbo without breaking it then? I seem to remember they deliberately kept the power down to avoid shagging the ancient mini/metro drivetrain??

Malcolm.

yeh, you dont want to push it much more then that, the turbo a series had a fair few engine mods to take the power up and handle it, but the boxes are not great after that.
you can get that power without a turbo from a a series tho. and parts are pretty cheap!
still would be funny to hear a allegro with a turbo!
could we turbo a E series engine? more cc to start with. the vdp was 90bhp standard, so add a turbo and some other nice bits it might be ok?

If we can get a gearbox and stuff for it, didn't someone have a spare Zetec 2.0 lying around?
