Thats nice work, would it be worth taking moulds from it - if the conversion works well you could have a few bell housings cast and sell them on (as well as having a couple spare) to offset the original costs.

That's a good idea, but how much does casting cost?

Had a week off work last week so spent a good couple of days out in the garage and managed to strip the whole inside of the shell back to bare metal. Here's a picture half way through:

Sick, good work. Are you stripping it back to repaint it or for fun? :)

Future proofing really, i'm giving it a few decent base coats of POR-15 before top coating it with the rest of the body.

Crap news, the Imp project is up for sale. At the start of this month I launched my own web design company and unfortunately I don't really have time or the funds for such an involving project.

I plan to put the Toyota engine and modified Imp gearbox in storage until I have the time for another, but everything else will be sold.

I'm gutted, but it's for the best. Thanks for all your support during the build.

You can see it on eBay here: http://goo.gl/e2CH7

Hi.

Really sorry to see this go, it would have been a cracking project.

At least you will build another with the bits at a later date.

Good luck with the sale.

Thats sad news indeed.

I was excitedly scrolling down expecting an update until I saw that post.

Couldn't you just mothball the whole project into cheap storage somewhere.....

... you might struggle to find another shell in such good condition in the future!

Bugger, wish you'd posted this up on FB as I would have kept it in storage for you. Or bought it and got it finished. Always wanted something rear engined.

£500? you sold it for £500? Jesus wish I'd noticed this sooner, would have given you £500 and chucked it in my old mans garage, sold the land rover and got it finished! Gutted.

It was more a problem of storage. In August I'm moving out of my flat (with a garage) and into my in-laws (without a garage) to save some money for a house deposit. Getting older sucks...

Blimey, has it been that long since I was last on here?

I was hoping to see the ay-gimp nearly finished now. Gutted for you Christian.

Looking back the Cavalier was great because it was a fairly simple 'out with the old, in with the new' conversion. The Imp was going to be a big expensive project and probably something better suited to when I've got money and my own garage.

I would really love another though, just something standard and slow to cruise around these Chichester/Goodwood roads.
