Have you thought about running an LSD? My turbo'd GTE run's a Quaife ATB and really transforms the handling

MG “Mad Maestro” Spec Sheet
Engine –
Std block, head, pistons/internals, etc
Std exhaust manifold with t3 (cossie) turbo and custom full length 2.75inch exhaust with a 3 inch tailpipe.
Custom inlet manifold built from a combination of a carb manifold cut to basics and extended with raw ally and efi manifold elements and drilled and aligned injector holes, much wrapping of the exhaust and inlet manifold and injectors/fuel rail to reduce heat soak.
Cossie 4wd intercooler modified to fit in front of the rad with some of the pipe work wrapped to reduce heat soak.
Currently running mems 1.9 (rover 600ti) management with wasted spark ignition, at 12psi boost. Fuel pump is a 400bhp cossie item with independent pressure regulator.
Greddy profec boost controller (in-car electronic). Battery moved to the boot to accommodate the air filter. Custom built high tensile head bolts (allen key heads), and allen key cam cover bolts.

Transmission-
Std k7 gold label (steel caged bearings) with std turbo drive shafts. Super clutch 7 ¼ inch twin plate clutch with flywheel modified to accommodate it. Soon to have high spec thrust bearing.

Brakes-
Std rear brakes, drums etc
Fronts have usual 280mm disc conversion (g60 vw) with cossie callipers. The servo was thrown out and replaced with a full power brake system from an early bmw, this system is complete with an accumulator and power steering control , on a brake tester this pulls up at 750kilos each side on the front and 350 kilos each side at the rear, this equates to approx 150% efficiency, this is above abs systems but much easier to lock up so you only have to breathe on the brakes to stop.

Wheels and Tyres-
Wheels are MGF Abingdon 7x16. Tyres are 205/50x16w toyo t1r on the rear and Goodyear f1 on the front. Tyres allow a 6% increase in gearing/speed this reduces wheelspin and makes your speedo more accurate.

Cooling-
Triple core radiator, secondary radiator to cool water from the turbo, before re-entry into the system, electric water pump to assist water flow through the turbo. Two kenlowe fans on the main rad one of which is wired to the ecu and the other is an independent 2 speed unit, secondary rad has a fan connected to the the 2 speed one. Some pipe work is custom built for the job.

Suspension-
Lowered uprated springs, gas shock absorbers. All std bushes at the moment, still considering poly bushes. Adjustable front camber bolts fitted.

Interior-
Std red carpet and seat belts. Rover 800 electric front seats maestro vdp grey leather rear seats, all retrimmed with red pinstripe, door cards retrimmed in two tone grey vinyl and red pinstripe. Rear view mirror removed and replaced with rear view camera.

Exterior-
Std maestro shell with extended modified montego sills and rear arches, matched wings to sills. Twin headlight conversion made from scratch using Capri/bmw e21 inner headlights and e30 projector style outer headlights with full hid conversion (full projector and controller from a late Mercedes). Turbo top rear spoiler added. Painted in post office red. Custom MG badge (modified MGB alloy badge). Radio aerial hole welded and smoothed, delocked doors.

I.C.E.-
4 tweeters, 4 six inch bass mids, 1 fifteen inch jl sub, 5amps, 2 crossovers to control front and rear. Head unit replaced with dvd/cd rom. P4 mobile computer with 4.1 surround sound, wireless, Bluetooth, tv freeveiw, dvd, 8inch touchscreen monitor and most other home system capabilities. Rear view is linked to computer with extra positions for other cameras.

Performance-
This car has until now only been on the rollers once, 12psi running very rough as it was to rich and very lean on boost, 204bhp @ 214lbft, since these readings the manifold was built as the rollers showed some problems with its breathing, at this point I could not fuel 6 psi of boost but it felt quicker and idled better, then proceeded to sort out the fuelling the best I had it was 14psi with an mf2 system running 2 cossie 570cc injectors, it ran 0-60 in approx 5 secs, quicker than an m3 evo (e36), at this boost it ran very lean above 4000rpm so they came past me at 110+ mph. but still had a top speed of 160mph+. At this point I have had problems with every clutch I have fitted std and modified the torque just rips them to pieces, this is estimated to be approx 280lbft. Hence the twin plate “super clutch”. Now that the mems system is fitted and working I think its at around 200 bhp@10psi and slightly higher torque it has become very drivable and almost feels like a std car, but am only currently running 12psi this is because that is a safe boost pressure for this system, this also feels quicker than 12psi with the old system because it revs cleaner and higher. The next enhancement now that most of the bugs are sorted out will be an emerald ecu with 3 stage boost 10/14/18 psi. This will hopefully be as far as I go with the power I think at that point it will be enough “for an old banger”. I will then concentrate on the suspension to reduce roll etc and under steer.

The K7 gearbox comes with a Torsen differential, similar thing to the quaife ATB.

the k7 box is not std with torsen diff and have thought about it. the rule of thumb is if you power on and wheel spin 1 wheel then a slipper would be beneficial if when you power on you spin up both wheels as i do then a slipper will not nessarily be beneficial regards ricky

Great specs Ricky, but I'm with Delmastiff on the LSD front. Just look at the new Focus RS, apparently the standard fit Quaife almost eradicates torque steer.

i don't get much torque steer it just lift both wheels off the rd so you land up with no steering at all, when it bites it grips with both wheels at the same time, this is why i have not gone for a slipper, i will show you sometime with a demo make sure you have a change of underwear, it is quite surprising, even at low boost. here are some photos of my car, hope you like them.

because of all the clutch problems i have been having (snapping cables, melting thrust bearings and thats just since the new "super clutch" was fitted) i have had to buy an uprated thrust bearing, which does not come with a carrier as per the std one, and get a carrier made up (lots of measuring and drawing up of an engineers drawing) a friend made this for me from the drawing. i can do this myself but don't have the machines or access to them, so £30 later this is what i got for my money. i could have bought one ready made for £125 + postage, the thrust bearing was £60 thus saving me £35 :) so if i can get it fitted by the weekend i will be at toats in the Mad Maestro on sunday, if not i will have to lord it up in the rover with heated leccy seats etc.

Have now fitted the new heavy duty thrust bearing and carrier, has made the clutch smoother and lighter :) , partly due to the bolt that secures the clutch fork touching the clutch cover and partly to less contact on the clutch fingers. so have marked my nice "super clutch" so to get my own back i took the angle grinder to the offending bolt :) , it won't be touching my clutch again :) . regards ricky

i spent a few hours this evening stripping the turbo off the car. the old unit was completly knackered, it was leaking into the exhaust much more than into the inlet side, the fumes (burnt oil) on idle were the minor leak and the 007 style smoke screen was the leak into the exhaust which smelled like oil rather than burnt oil. Have rebuilt the turbo there is hardly any play in it all and with the new 360 degree thrust bearing and staggered turbine oil seal and other inners, should be good for some good boost and be a lot more reliable now and of course no more smoke :) hope to get it back together tomorrow. regards ricky

that is a good question christian. in all the years i have worked with turbos i have never balanced one. i know of the benefits and i beleive them to be true (mostly) but this time round i got quotes to have it balanced and they were stupid, £170 to balance and assemble the turbo was the average. they are weighed on scales to balance them, so that the turbine and the compressor wheel weigh the same, i don't think that they are dynamically balanced at all, going by the replies that i got from the companies that i called. might be worth investing in a pair of scales (digital of course) can't let all the drug suppliers corner the market, and give it a try could earn good money. regards ricky
